Sewing Hope & Strength: My #SewPINK Woven Drop Zone Pouch

Sewing Hope & Strength: My #SewPINK Woven Drop Zone Pouch

Every October, I’m honored to join ByAnnie’s #SewPINK Initiative—a campaign that brings our sewing community together to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research and prevention.

This year, I decided to give my Drop Zone Pouch a glow-up—woven edition. You might remember the non-woven version I shared earlier this year. It’s a super practical, flat-bottom bag (zipper drama included 😂), and I couldn’t resist reimagining it with one of my favorite techniques: fabric weaving.

Why I Chose to Weave

Fabric weaving is meditative for me. There’s something grounding about watching color and texture come together strip by strip - it’s like therapy with thread. For this project, I wanted to blend creativity with purpose, and using these shades of pink, purple, and teal felt like stitching together a message of hope, resilience, and community.

Each tiny diamond represents a moment of strength—both personal and collective - and I love that this pouch now carries that meaning with it.

The Process

I started by creating a mini woven panel using narrow strips of batiks and solids, then quilted it into a dimensional 3D cube pattern that felt both modern and classic. Once the panel was ready, I transformed it into a Drop Zone Pouch using ByAnnie’s pattern.

It’s vibrant, tactile, and honestly kind of hypnotic. The way the light hits those facets? Magic.

Why #SewPINK Matters

The stats are sobering - 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. That’s why the #SewPINK Initiative matters. It’s not just about pink thread or pretty projects; it’s about awareness, early detection, and community support.

As makers, we have this incredible ability to create beauty and spark conversation. Stitch by stitch, we can raise awareness and show up for each other in ways that matter.
