Hugs & Kisses Quilt Kit - Blooming Garden Edition

This version of the Hugs & Kisses quilt kit featuring Blooming Garden by Jojulein Design for Cloud9 Fabrics absolutely comes alive against a deep black background. The contrast makes every floral, bird, and geometric print pop with this bold, modern stained-glass energy that immediately caught my attention when mocking it up.

While the Blooming Garden collection itself is printed on organic cotton, I intentionally paired it with a non-organic black background for this version because the richness and purity of the black gave the quilt the dramatic contrast I was looking for. Softer organic blacks just didn’t create the same effect. That said, I’m always searching for the perfect organic alternative, and if I find one that delivers this same visual impact, I plan to offer a second fully organic option in the future.

The Hugs & Kisses pattern is a beginner-friendly quilt built from 5” squares that creates a striking mix of X and O blocks with lots of movement and visual texture. Finished quilt size is approximately 45½” x 54½”.

Want to go bigger? Two kits combine beautifully into a larger 7 x 8 block layout measuring approximately 63½” x 72½” — a much more throw-sized finish with balanced proportions that really lets the design shine. You’ll even have a few leftover blocks perfect for a matching pillow or coordinating accent project.
