And with the completion of this Sew Together Bag, I definitely feel like I’ve knocked something major off of my bucket list. The ubiquitous nature of this bag and pattern by Sew Demented has almost become a right-of-passage type project in the quilting community and for good reason because it kicks ass.
Honestly, I’d been wanting to make it for a while, but I was intimidated by it for some reason and kept back-burnering it. And like when I started EPP-ing these tiny 5/8″ hexagons that I got from Paper Pieces, I totally had a different project in mind but I soon realized that it had the risk of becoming one of those 100+ hour projects and I already had a couple of those in the works. Here’s the English Paper Piecing part of the journey that took place over the course of a few work trips and involved various Turquoise and Lime Green Pure, Floral and Nature Elements from Art Gallery Fabrics.
And then here’s a neato picture of the backside after I took the papers out and before I pressed it. Cool huh?
It was about halfway through the piecing that I had decided it was going to be the outside of a Sew Together Bag, so I cut it to size and decided on the Artic Avens denim print as the accent.
And then since this bag is most def all that and a bag of chips, here she is in all her glory.
And like now that I’ve made this one, I totally get why people made multiples because I want to make more. And for real for real, this pattern is fun and awesome and as long as you use a denim needle to sew it all together, it’s totally manageable. So get down get down and make one! Woop! Woop!
Hey Mr. D.–what’s your reasoning behind using a big fat 28 wt. thread for binding??? Thx.
Well it’s a bag. So it’s gonna get a lot of action and I didn’t wanna take a chance of it breaking over time.
Thanks for the reply. I’ve not tried a heavy thread on binding, well, unless it was like for some kinda decorative stitching. I was thinking a poly thread would be strong and in 60 wt, it would still hide the binding stitches. Like the bag! Hope you enjoy using it. 🙂
Beautiful, colours are amazing, love this design , hope you have years of happy use
It turned out awesome! Way to go!
Love your bag..thanks for the encouragement, as I too have been putting this on the back burner after hearing that it was a challenging project. Yours turned out gorgeous! Love the EPP that you did too…perfect way to show off all that work!
Love, love, love that bag! How painful was it to trim off the edges of those mini-hexies?
Omg it was so haaaaard. Like I never wanna trim hexies bc they’re so perfect. But I’m glad I bit the bullet and did it.
This is just great! Turned out fabulous. Thanks for the inspiration
