Australia’s Make Modern Magazine is having a mini mini quilt challenge where the only rule is to make something under 6″x6″. So, I took the challenge and learned some neato stuff along the way.
I am a member of the Quilter’s Square kona solids stash monthly club, where I get a jazzy bundle of Robert Kaufman KONA solids. Up until this point, I couldn’t find it in me to cut into them, until I gazed longingly at this sunset of colors, knowing exactly what I wanted to do with them.
I knew I wanted to weave something and that I needed it to be smaaaaall. I hadn’t been able to make 1/4″ strips before, but a lightbulb clicked and I figured it out. Yaaaaay! So I decided to go for it with an optical illusion weave.
As I completed the weave, the sun began to set and the light was way perfect for this crazy awesome pic.
I knew the binding had to be tiny tiny because I didn’t want to hide any of the weave, and the only way to achieve it was to hand bind it, which I had never done before. And voila, my first official mini mini was born, measuring just under 6″x6″.
I totally expect to make more of these gems. Not only is it super fun, but it’s a less daunting way to try some new things.
Just awesome.
Thank you!!
how absolutely wonderful!!! 🙂
Thanks so much
