Of all the makes and makers that contributed to my Loved to Pieces Spring Market Booth, I hands down can honestly say that I was the most blown away by the makes from Catalina Fiber Arts. And if you’ve been keeping track of all of the makes that I’ve shared, they’re in phenomenal company. Like I could tell that their kitchen-specific makes were spectacular from their portfolio, but, once I got them in my hands, I was speechless. Like these are things that should be sold in a high end store or en masse at Macy’s or something. The attention to detail is bonkers and they clearly know what it takes and goes into making high end kitchen items. Definitely check out their Etsy store for what they have on hand and purchase aplenty.
Now let’s get to know this dynamic duo and see these awesome makes:
Hey Ya’ll! We are Jackie Dudek and Amanda Gehl a mother/daughter duo and the makers behind the designs at Catalina Fiber Arts and Fabrics… we weren’t always the dynamic duo though. As a super mom (Jackie) started her own machine quilting business back in 1998 in her free time and she was always sewing up cute outfits, quilts, bags, curtains, barbie clothes, and you name it she sewed it. While (Amanda) loved all of the personalized handmade items filled with hours of labor and love, she really wanted NOTHING to do with sewing and fabric as that was her “MOM’s THING” (if we are being completely honest here *wink wink)
HOWEVER… it wasn’t until college (Amanda) got the sewing itch AND THEN she asked for a sewing machine, AND THEN she discovered Art Gallery Fabrics, and well the addiction to fabric her mom had had for years, finally caught up to her and so the dynamic duo was born.
Who wouldn’t want to have a sewing addiction… umm business with their mom or daughter though? It’s so fun!!!
So we began to design our own products, ones that were both functional and of course cute! It started with our KitchenAid mixer bowl covers and then just continued to expand from there. Naturally, most of our items in our Etsy shop Catalina Fiber Arts are kitchen products, probably because we both have a love for fun dishes and kitchen gadgets. You can find us roaming the aisles of Home Goods for hours whenever we get together. Our products range from microwave bowl and plate cozies, to potholders, fabric plant pots, quilts, table runners, placemats, coasters, and napkins. We love to create our designs in coordinating fabrics and you will mostly find an assortment of florals throughout our shop. We strive to create high quality products in beautiful prints and patterns, ones that have just a touch of something special such as a pretty trim or a fun pom pom accent.
When Mathew put out an all call to makers for his new AGF fabric collection Loved to Pieces we knew it would be the perfect match and that his cheerful floral inspired designs would pair beautifully with our own design aesthetic. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome! His collection was so fun to work with and we got an impromptu mini vacation sewing together (something that no longer happens on a regular basis since we now live in separate states) as we made up a collection of our favorites for his booth at Quilt Market. Since we ended up making multiple items it was so fun to get to play with a variety of his prints and pair them together to create the pretty combos we ended up choosing. We fell in love with so many of his prints that its hard to choose a favorite …Pieced Bunches Wild, Efflorescent Fuschsia, and Anthonem Serene are just a couple that have been causing us to cue all the heart eyed emojiis. We will definitely be featuring some in our shop real soon!!! So be on the look out!!!

I still can’t get over how innovative and top quality these kitchen items are. And then it was like they were made for my shelves at Market by how beautiful they looked.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you Jackie and Amanda for sharing with everyone the beauty of your relationship and the excellence of your makes. You definitely have something quite special on your hands on all fronts.
