A couple months ago, Fat Quarter Shop reached out asking if I’d want to participate in their Pillow Fight this year, where various makers would “fight” each other to see who the supreme pillow champion is. We were to make a pillow inspired by one from Laundry Basket Quilts Pillow Talk Book.
Almost prophetically, Edita & Kimberly are holding the two pillows that my sparring partner and I used as our inspirations for our own pillows. For Rond 7, none other than the incomparable Suzy Quilts is in the other corner of the ring. And for those that don’t know, Suzy and I basically love each. Check this out, I have proof.
When I first began making my version of this pillow, I was going a more muted direction and then like 1/4 of the way through I decided that I wasn’t feeling it and wanted to make a rainbow version instead. I used 36 different Pure Solids from Art Gallery Fabrics for the circles and placed them on a single rectangle of denim. I quilted it using Superior MicroQuilter and went with a simple grid since, you know, that’s my jam.
And, for all intents and purposes, I couldn’t been done and called it a day. But I kept looking at the finished pillow and decided that it needed a coordinating pillow that’s like a negative of the first one. So instead of using 36 different circles, I used 36 different squares and matched up the color placement with the original rainbow of circles.
Once I added the denim circles, it all cam together and I knew that I had made the right choice to create the perfect partner pillows. And now it’s time to vote. You have until February 25th to make your voice heard in this epic showdown. Click here or on the image below to vote.
Thanks for joining the Pillow Fight. What a super fun neato mosquito event. Now let’s get ready to rumble and stuff.
I love both versions! Got a new residence coming up in a couple of days and I’m really looking forward to unpacking the sewing machine and making these pillows for my new place. Of course, I will have to decorate the room around the pillows, right? 🙂
How did you make the circles for your beautiful Dot Dot Dot pillow? Please don’t tell me you appliqued them…well, if you did, you did. Just tell me please.
Como você fez os círculos, por favor?
