As a whirlwind year of English Paper Piecing seems to be winding down, I finally found the time to finish this Kwik Whirligig Pillow that I start a few months ago. It’s a new EPP Pattern by Karie Jewell of Two Kwik Quilters. I’m always down to test something new and when Karie asked me to play with her pattern before it launched, I was all like heck ya because I knew I could make Helena her purple, pink, and turquoise pillow that she’s been asking for.
I chose a bevy of Floral & Nature Elements from Art Gallery Fabrics that totally got the thumbs up from the lady. So with my Bohin Milliner Needles, Threadcutterz and Thimble Pads, I was ready to get to stitching.
I had a roundabout idea for a flow from color to color, so I stitched the main whirligigs up with varying center and blade colors and then decided as I went. The final result was amazing to me.
Once I had it all stitched up, I knew that I had to whip out the Aurifil Iris 40 wt from my Mister Domestic’s Tool Box. It literally goes with everything, but I knew it would be straight up magic on top of these colors.
I used canvas on the back with snaps and stuffed it with a 20″ x 20″ pillow insert and now it’s ready to pass on to Queen Helena. Seriously this project was a blast.
Keep it positive y’all.
