Sheri of Whole Circle Studio and I have teamed up to bring you the Patchwork Petals Sewing Party starting on June 18th. A few months ago, Sheri reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in collaborating with her. I’m absolutely obsessed with her patterns and was coincidentally in the process of brainstorming a sew-along once my Loved to Pieces fabric collection launched. Serendipity! We decided that it would be super rad if Sheri could design a foundation paper pieced pattern inspired by my collection that was also consistent with her vibe. When she sent me the first mock-ups of Patchwork Petals, I absolutely got the feels and knew it was a home run. Here are the initial four blocks that she’s sewn using AGF Solids and Denim and oh my am I in love.
From the digital mock-ups, these blocks totally look appliqued. Like how on earth could these curves be foundation paper pieced? Well, that’s the genius of Sheri and her amazing patterns. And now I know some of y’all might either be all like what the hootie is foundation paper piecing or might be totally intimidated by what you see online. Well, that’s where we come in. Simply put, Foundation Paper Piecing is very much like a paint-by-numbers using fabric, where you sew the fabric together on top of a paper pattern template. Trust me, once you’re able to do this technique your arsenal of artistry in quilting exponentially increases. Much like I did with Pat Bravo and my EPP Party last year, my plan is to provide as many video tutorials and step-outs during the 8-week Patchwork Petals Sewing Party as you would need to go from being Foundation Paper Piecing neophytes to a sewing butterflies who can tackle any foundation pattern that comes your way. Check out my video on Foundation Paper Piecing: What is it?
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO START
The Patchwork Petals Sewing Party will run for eight weeks from June 18th – August 12th. This is a sew-at-your-own pace kinda party and you are not required to sew all four blocks. However, I will focus on one block every two-week period with my blog posts, videos and livestreams. In the end, I will be able to touch and hold this beauty in the flesh that I’ll be making using my Loved to Pieces Collection.
Every week, just by participating, you will be eligible to win some awesome gifts from our sponsors. All you need to do is post a work-in-progress photo on Instagram using the hashtag #PATCHWORKPETALSQUILT. And if you choose to work on one block for the entire party, you are totally eligible as long as you post a photo during that week.
