Cubes Cubed is a triaxial fabric weaving pattern that turns simple strips into a bold, graphic illusion of three-dimensional cubes. No piecing. No templates. Just rhythm, repetition, and that ohhhh moment when the geometry locks into place.
This pattern walks you through weaving three directional layers at 30° angles using dark, mid, and light values from the same color family to create depth and movement. It looks wild. It’s actually very doable. And once it clicks? It’s deeply satisfying.
Use the finished panel as a statement quilt block, pillow front, bag panel, or anywhere you want serious visual impact.
What you’ll make
- One 18” x 18” woven panel
- A dimensional cube design created entirely through fabric weaving (not piecing)
What you’ll learn
- How to prep and fold fabric strips for triaxial weaving
- How to draw and use a 30° triaxial grid
- How to weave three intersecting layers for strong dimensional contrast
- How to use pinning and tension (not force) to keep everything smooth
- How to finish and stabilize a woven panel for quilting or sewing
Skill level
Beginner-friendly.
No prior weaving experience needed - just patience, curiosity, and a willingness to trust the process. (And yes, the tutorial helps. Trust me.)
Fabric requirements

Love the pattern
The pattern seems to be easy to follow. I haven’t jumped in yet, but it doesn’t look too complicated. I do wish the “Wefty” tool was still available though.
