So like I’m all a member of the Portland Modern Quilt Guild, but only went to my first meeting last month because I’m admittedly an outgoing introvert and big groups of people petrify me, especially if I’m a newbie to the group. But I bit the bullet and oh em gee am I glad I did because it was wonderful. But look how big the guild is oh em gee.
So anyway, one of my buddies, Jen Carlton-Bailly of Betty Crocker Ass, was teaching a class today on curves through the Guild so I was like win-win I can do more guildy stuff and support my peeps so I signed up. And boy oh boy did I learn some amazing stuff. But like since it was a class which involves commerce and information I gained from it and stuff, I’m not gonna share the tidbits. I know waaaah. However, if you ever get the chance to take a class with Jen, take it because she’s a legit and awesome instructor. And like I’m not saying that because she’s my peeps either because like I wouldn’t have written a blog post if I didn’t think so and I’d all be like doh-tee-doh when asked about it.
So here are my five blocks from the class, which clearly showed the diversity in curves. I used the Indygo Shadow solid smooth denim and all the prints from Dana Willard‘s new Blush collection with Art Gallery Fabrics. And of course I used Aurifil 50wt for the piecing because it’s amazing.
And TBH I have no earthly what I’m gonna turn these into. It took 6+ hours to make these, so I’m foreseeing making more in the future and making a quilt because that would be awesome I think. But deadlines are fierce so that’ll go into my 2018 column. Now if you wanna get Jen’s acrylic curve templates, head over to her shop to get them.
Definitely an awesome day spent with rad folks making cool stuff!
Your blocks are beautiful. And they look so flat !!!!! 2 thumbs up
Great fabric! Great blocks! They would lock super in a modern type quilt.
Jen is the best! She has a way of making those curves so attainable!
Ooooooooo! I can’t wait to see what these turn in to- next year, of course! You rock; glad you bit the bullet and went to guild.
Nice!
